Battle of the Touchscreen Titans
With the release of the 3G iPhone, Sony X1 Xperia and the HTC Diamond this coming quarter, Tech savvy mobile fan boys are spoilt for choice.
Though the iphone won't be coming to singapore till septmember, as compared to the X1 and Diamond which should be available at an earlier date.
( The Diamond will be retail ready in June)
This of course, hasn't stopped hardcore mac fans ( I'm a proud owner of an iphone myself~ ^^;) from importing and unlocking foreign sets.
Personally...the decision boils down to 3 factors:
1) Price
Only the Diamond's retail price has been confirmed so far, at a whopping $1098.
No news abt the Sony Xperia as of yet.
And I predict the 3G iphone to retail at US$599 under AT&T.
Bottom line, it should be cheaper to ship in a 3G iphone from the states than purchase its competitors locally.
Which bring us to....
2) Warranty
Getting the 3G iPhone earlier from abroad would void the warranty, since you'll have to jailbreak and unlock it (provided an unlock for the new OS is available). The other 2 alternatives would be a safer option, if anything should go wrong with your handset.
3) UI
Nothing comes close to apple's intitive user interface, be it the symbian OS on the X1 or the Touch Flo enhanced Windows Mobile on the Diamond.
Of course we'll know more as the products are finally released. First up, being the 3G iPhone which will be unveiled at the coming WWDC on June 9th.
If I could afford it though, I don't mind getting ALL of these shiny new toys~ =p
Intel Centrino 2 ( Montevina) release postponed
If you've been thinking of getting that new lappy for the upcoming acad year, you might want to give it more thought.
A new mobile platform is due to be released by Intel Mid July, which should translate to OEMs shipping out Centrino 2 laptops sometime Mid August.
Orignally slated for a june release, the release date has been pushed back to july 14th due to issues with the onboard 802.11n and in-built graphic solution.
The new Centrino 2 platforms sports the new smaller 45nm Penryn chips, on the the new contiga chipset, with clockspeeds up to 3.06Ghz. In addition to lower power consumption due to the die shrinkage, it sports the new integrated X3100 inbuilt graphic, onboard WIFI (WiMAX & wireless N) and a 1066 MT/s FSB ( i.e. RAM support for DDR3).
So what does this mean?
Well... I'm gonna think twice about getting a new laptop replacement for my cranky vaio this coming PC show. ( which if u didn't know, starts the following thur at Suntec.)
But then again, these things are ALWAYS improving.
The best advice I've ever heard abt buying IT goods?
Just get it, when u need it~ =p

Not dat i'm complaining but i guess the concept of this hotboys kelong is more for ppl to layback and unwind.
Personally, I was suffering from the lack of internet.
2 DAYS without getting an online fix is like...ARHGHhghHGHHgh?!?!
ok... i admit it. I'm an internet junkie. But I'm sure alot of us were suffering from withdrawal symptoms over that weekend. lol...especially so with so many CABAL players in the group.
Btm line:
hotboys kelong is decent.
Rmb to ask for some beach gear ( i.e. volleyball) from the kelong before going island hopping. Cuz pretty much other den frollicking along the the beach, there's not much else to do while island hoping.
